Formed in 1965 as the Newaygo County Historical Society, the organization is a non-profit group dedicated to the cultivation and preservation of the county history. It operates through memberships, donations, fundraisers, and endowment funds supplied through the Fremont Area Community Foundation and the Lutheran Foundation.
In April of 2013, the board voted to change the title of the organization to better reflect the future focus of how we serve our communities. The Newaygo County Museum and Heritage Center shall continue the exhibition and cultivation of historic objects and resource documents and photos. These attributes bring our heritage to the people of Newaygo County and the tourists seeking information about the unique place they choose to visit.
